Our Journey at AWS Build On SG
The thrill of competition, the intensity of brainstorming, the satisfaction of bringing an idea to life - that's what hackathons are all about. And recently, my team and I had the exhilarating experience of participating in AWS Build On SG, a competition where we battled it out against some of the brightest minds in Singapore. The cherry on top? We snagged the 3rd runner-up spot! The road to the finals wasn't easy. It was a grueling few weeks fueled by gallons of coffee and endless lines of code. But the fight was worth it. Our team was driven by a common purpose - to create a tech solution that could make a real difference in the fight against COVID-19.
Hospitals, with their high concentration of vulnerable individuals, were a major concern during the pandemic. We saw an opportunity to leverage technology to address this challenge. Our idea? A comprehensive visitor management and geofencing system specifically designed for hospitals.
Our solution was multifaceted. We envisioned a user-friendly website where visitors could book their visitation slots and submit health declarations beforehand. This streamlined the process and minimized congestion at the hospital. But it didn't stop there. To ensure proper social distancing and patient safety within the hospital itself, we proposed utilizing physical bracelets for visitor tracking. Combined with geofencing technology, this system would provide real-time location data, allowing hospital staff to monitor visitor movement and prevent any potential breaches.
Developing a functional prototype within the hackathon timeframe was no easy feat. Our team tirelessly coded, designed, and refined our concept, fueled by the shared goal of creating a solution that could truly benefit the healthcare sector.
In the end, the hard work paid off. Securing the 3rd runner-up spot was a tremendous honor, but the real reward was the validation of our idea. The competition solidified our belief in the power of technology to tackle real-world problems, especially in critical areas like healthcare.
This experience at AWS Build On SG was more than just a hackathon; it was an incubator for innovation. It allowed us to push our boundaries, collaborate effectively, and witness the immense potential of technology to create positive change. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to see how our idea, or similar solutions, can be implemented to improve hospital safety and visitor management in the future.
